In 2001, many AU Latino alumni recognized the need for a group where graduating Latino students could continue networking and addressing many of the social policies affecting them in higher education. In the spirit of celebrating their strengths as an educated, diverse and reinvigorated alumni body, these young professionals joined together to spearhead the first Latino Alumni Chapter (LAC) at American University. LAC's goals include the following: To promote and facilitate the activities and interests of Latino alumni and the university To provide a venue for fellowship and networking among alumni To advise and, where possible, assist American University in the recruitment, retention, and development of prospective and currently enrolled Latino students To increase the visibility of Latino alumni and other marginalized groups at university alumni functions To facilitate communication between LAC and other alumni associations in the Washington metropolitan area
LAC does not discriminate on the basis of color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age or disability. Contact InfoChapter Leaders President Wilmara Guido SIS/BA '06 Wilmara.Guido@gmail.com
